You can enjoy your meal inside the restaurant in the distinguished dining area or at the tables outside overlooking the bustling square.
If you’re not feeling hungry La Plaza has an excellent drinks menu. They have a wonderful selection of fruit smoothies and non-alcoholic fruit cocktails for the kids…or if it’s too early in the day for a stronger drink! They have a wide selection of spirits and even offer a number of different brands of gin and whisky for example. The cocktails are some of the best I have tasted in Malaga too… nothing out of the ordinary… mojitos, piña coladas, daiquiris and the likes but they are properly made and presented beautifully. They also have happy hour mid to late afternoon each day with discounts on these magnificent cocktails!
The staff here are always extremely friendly and efficient too. Most speak Spanish and English and are happy to give you recommendations from the menu, explain the different dishes or even have a friendly chat without intruding. They will also encourage and help you if you want to practice your Spanish which can make the experience even more enjoyable.
In my opinion La Plaza is by far the best establishment located on the strip of bars and restaurants on the pedestrianised side of Plaza de la Merced. They also have two other restaurants, one located on the corner opposite the cinema at the Roman Theatre and the other in the Larios shopping centre near the train station.
So when you are in Malaga and passing through Plaza de la Merced make sure you stop to sample the delights La Plaza has to offer… whether a light bite of tapas, a refreshing cocktail or an evening meal you will not leave this place disappointed!
